World Sindhi Language Day

World Sindhi Language Day was celebrated in SVIMS campus on 12th April 2023.


Ms. Varsha Nathani talked about the history of the Sindhi Language. Sindhi is one of the Dravidian language, and has its roots in the civilization of Mohen-jo-Daro. After the partition of India, numerous Sindhi Hindus migrated from Sindh and settled in Central, Western and Northern parts of India. They are known to have an entrepreneurial mindset.


Ms. Bhagyashree Jagwani narrated a story from Sindhi folklore of the Sindhi God – Jhulelal Sai. Devotees prayed to Lord Varuna for forty days to seek an end to their atrocities. Lord Varuna in his “Akashvani” blessed them and said that he would come down to Earth in a Human Form and help them to overcome their woes.

Ms. Deepali Asnani informed the audience as to how Cheti Chand is celebrated by Sindhi Community. The special significance of ‘Diya’ decorated with dry fruits, flowers and Kumkum was brought out by her. Ms. Diksha Beharani enthralled the audience with her narrative of Sindhi Cuisine. She also explained the popular Ajrak printing process on cloth – that is very popular with the Sindhi Community.


Lastly cultural performances on popular Sindhi songs – lal Jhulelal, Hik Son Jo Rupaiyo, etc. had the audience grooving to the music.
